What is Fen Phen?
Fen Phen is the prescription diet drug combination
of fenfluramine and phentermine and has been marketed under the
names Redux, Pondimin, Fenfluramine, and Dexfenfluramine. The FDA
approved this prescription medication as an appetite suppressant
for the short-term management of obesity. Phentermine was first
approved in 1959 and fenfluramine was approved in 1973. Fen Phen
never gave the FDA studies showing the safety or effectiveness of
the drugs.

Why is Fen Phen
dangerous?

hypertension (PPH) occurs in the blood vessels in the lungs.

valves to carcinoid syndrome, which indicates a correlation between
Fen Phen use and valve disease. Not soon after the Mayo Clinic report
the FDA issued a Public Health Advisory describing had been found
with Fen Phen.
